Prince Caspian ****

Okay, Alisa and I saw this movie on Saturday, and we both loved it.

Just so you know (and if you saw the first one, you should expect this), this doesn't follow the books 100%. However, I do think that even with the changes the movie stayed true to the story. There were bits I would have done differently, or even emphasized more or less, but I think thats because I loved the book, and I don't personally feel the need to pull in large crowds. But, seeing as that is what will pay for the next installment, I don't begrudge them that.

The same four kids are back, they did great in their parts. The choice of Prince Caspian (while much older than he is supposed to be), worked well. If you like the books, or liked the last movie, you should go see this one. I think its even better than the first.

One note, they need to take a page from Peter Jackson and film several of these together, these kids are going to get way too old, soon.

But if you recall from the books, there's a couple of built-in escape hatches for the kids growing up. First of all, it's new kids every couple of books. Second of all, time flows very differently in Narnia versus our world. So, for example, the The Horse and His Boy is set during the time that the original four kids in the first book reigned in Narnia as High Kings and High Queens. One of them (I don't remember which) is portrayed in that book, but as an adult, because they grew up before coming back to our world and being children again.

The Chronicles of Narnia ought to be easier to film on that account than, say, Harry Potter.

But, you are forgetting that in The Last Battle, all the kids are back, except Susan, and they are not much older. Now, say they have a movie come out every 2 years, thats still another ten years until they would get around to The Last Battle. Which would make the actress who plays Lucy older than Peter is supposed to be in the book. That is where the problem comes in.

FYI, they're only planning on making two more movies -- limiting the series to the books that include these kids on the same timeline. They're not making the entire series into movies. For that, we should all give thanks because Caspian was a snorefest.

What two would be 'these kids on the same timeline'?

Dawn Treader has Edmund and Lucy.

The Last Battle has Edmund, Lucy, and Peter.

None have all four.

Then my guess is that there won't be any other movie with all four. The next one greenlit for production is The Dawn Treader, set for release in 2010. There were plans to make The Last Battle...but, because of Caspian's lukewarm showing at the box office, there are doubts.

There have been no plans to expand the movies for the rest of the series.
